Chicago Blackhawks goalie Scott Darling has returned from his upper-body injury and will be with the team as they begin a three game road trip Tuesday, March 14. That’s good news for the Hawks and for the Rockford IceHogs, because goalie Jeff Glass has returned to them.
The exact nature of Darling’s injury is still unknown, other than he suffered it during a morning skate on March 3. He was expected to be out for three weeks, but he somehow returned in ten days. While questions remain about Darling’s injury and quick recovery, the real focus is on the lift it will give to both the Hawks and the Hogs.
Glass was the hot goalie hand for the Hogs prior to his call-up. He had started 7 of the previous 9 games for Rockford. In those 7 starts, he gave us a total of 15 goals for a sparkling 1.67 goals against average. The Hogs were 3-4 in his starts.
With 14 games remaining and the IceHogs in 15th place, 5 points behind the 8th (and last) playoff spot held now by the Bakersfield Condors, every game is crucial. The return of Glass should provide a bit of a boost.
Another positive for the IceHogs comes in the form of Anthony Lewis. The sixth round draft pick of the Hawks in 2013, just signed with the Hawks after completing his senior season at Ohio. He had career highs in goals (14) and points (39). He will be a welcome addition to the IceHogs who can use all off the offensive firepower available down the stretch,
