The Montreal Canadiens will be taking on the Detroit Red Wings in their final game of the regular season. Tonight will be the last game ever played at the great Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

Montreal will be putting out a weak lineup tonight to ensure everyone is well rested for the playoffs. Several key players have not made the trip to Detroit, including Carey Price, Andrei Markov, Max Pacioretty, Alexander Radulov, Shea Weber, and Alexei Emelin.

Detroit, on the other hand, will come out very hard tonight, making sure that the Joe Louis gets the great goodbye that it deserves.

Notable Players

Mikhail Sergachev

Sergachev was called up from junior earlier today on an emergency basis. After playing 3 games at the beginning of the year, in which he was pointless with a +1 rating, Sergachev will get one last NHL game this season. Sergachev was drafted 9th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft and is Montreal’s best prospect at the moment. With the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL this year, Sergachev was the team’s top defenseman, logging huge minutes in the process. Sergachev had 10 goals and 33 assists for 43 points in 50 games played. He also put up 3 points in 7 games during this year’s playoffs, where the Spitfires were ousted by the London Knights in round 1. Sergachev will potentially be playing full time with the Habs next season. A solid performance tonight could prove to the Habs management that he belongs in the big leagues. Sergachev will not be sticking around too long after tonight though, as the Spitfires will be competing in the Memorial Cup about a month from now.

Every Depth Player

With the Habs resting several key players tonight, all of Montreal’s depth players will get a chance to be in the lineup and will play more often than usual. These players will have one final game to prove to Claude Julien that they belong in the starting lineup come playoffs. As of lately, Montreal has been getting very little depth scoring. Due to this, if someone puts up a good scoring performance tonight, Julien will not hesitate for a second to keep them in the lineup. With depth scoring always playing a big part in the playoffs, Montreal is going to need some of these players to step up if they are hoping to make a cup run.

Montreal Lineup Notes

-As mentioned earlier, Carey Price, Andrei Markov, Max Pacioretty, Alexander Radulov, Shea Weber, and Alexei Emelin will all not be making the trip to Detroit

-After being out for several games, Jordie Benn has traveled to Detroit, and will potentially make his return tonight.

Charlie Lindgren will be starting again tonight, with Al Montoya backing him up. If Lindgren puts up a solid performance, it would be no surprise to anyone if he backs up Price during the playoffs instead of Montoya.
