The Panthers made a splash today in signing two young wingers, Maxim Mamin and Henrik Haapala. Let’s take a look at what the Panthers did today.
Maxim Mamin, who played on CSKA Moskva last year, was signed after being drafted by the Panthers in 2016. The 22 year old Russian registered twenty-five points in forty-two games last year in the KHL. During his short time in the VHL, another Russian league below the KHL, he totaled two goals and three assists in four games. There isn’t a lot to say about the player but his hockey sense seems to be a strong attribute with him.
The really big news was the signing of Henrik Haapala, the 23 year old Finn. Last season, Haapala scored fifteen goals and compiled a spectacular forty-five assists. This totaled to sixty total points in fifty-one games last year in Liiga. The young player has an amazing pass as you can tell from his forty-five assists but, his lack of size is something to note. He stands at 5’9″ and weighs a measly 165 pounds. The thing that makes up for his size though, is his astonishing speed. You put a person on to cover him and they’re undoubtedly going to have their head on a swivel by the end of the shift. He has signed a 1.85 million dollar NHL contract which definitely seems like a good amount for a player like Henrik. Panthers fans, watch out for this guy, he could be something.
What do you think? Will Henrik become solid player in the NHL?
