BREAKING : The Calgary Flames have acquired defencemen Micheal Stone from the Arizona Coyotes.

The Flames sent a 3rd round draft pick in exchange for the defenscmen.

This seems to possibly be the first move in preparation for a larger move as we get closer to the March 1st NHL trade deadline.

Talent Analysis – (Talent Analysis from http://www.hockeysfuture.com )

A smart two-way defender with good size and reach, Stone is a composed player at both ends of the rink. He is a strong puck-mover who makes a crisp first pass and can move the puck smartly and quickly up the ice. Keeps it simple in his own end relying on good positional and stick play.

here is some evaluation on Stone from one fan on Twitter today

The general reaction I am seeing online from fans of the Arizona Coyotes is that they feel the team could have gotten more value in return for Stone.  It sounds like this move might have just been the first to get out of the way in order to make room for their next move. Maybe something much more significant?

This tweet from Bob McKenzie seems to suggest we may see more moves today even from Arizona.

This has all the writing on the wall for me to be one of those “where did this kid come from?” Type of trades for the Flames fans. While Micheal Stone played with the Arizona Coyotes those fans who are not religiously watching their games probably don’t know too much about this Stone or what he can do.

When you are in the NHL and not a top 10 player in the league lets be honest most other teams fans wouldn’t know who you are if they were sitting next to you on the bus.  Stone projects for me to be a guy that is able to slot into the top 4 for the flames as a solid stabilizing blue liner.

Prediction :

When the end of the 2016/2017 NHL season comes to an end Flames fans are going to be wondering how they got his guy for just a 3rd round draft pick. He is going to step into the Flames as an instant stabilizing force on the 2nd or 3rd pairing and by the end of the season will have worked his way up to a solid top 4 role. He may even get time paired with someone like TJ Broodie before the season is over. That would not surprise me one bit.

What are your thoughts Calgary and Arizona fans? Please share your thoughts on this post and let us know if you think this was a fair trade, or if you agree with @TRAVISYOST the fan (not the real Travis Yost) that the team could have gotten alot more value in return for him?
