In their first trade before the March 1st deadline Buffalo Sabres general manager Tim Murray acquired Mat Bodie from the New York Rangers.
OFFICIAL: #NYR have acquired forward Daniel Catenacci from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Mat Bodie.

Catenacci is 23 years old and has played in 50 games in the AHL this season. He has scored 5 goals and 8 assists for 13 points in that time.
Bodie is 26 years old and has spent most of the season in the AHL as well scoring 8 goals and 22 assists for 30 points in 45 games. Bodie has played in 196 AHL games and has 98 total points and 127 penalty minute. Bodie is currently ranked as the 12th in AHL defencemen scoring this season.
While this is in all likelihood a move for the AHL stretch run for both of the teams Bodie has shown some ability with the puck and could be given a look with the Sabers down the stretch if there are any injuries. He seems like the kind of player who might be interesting to give a look for a few games if you fall out of the playoff picture. Could be a chance that he is a late bloomer and is able to find himself with the Sabres in the future if he can continue to produce at the NHL level the way he has in the AHL to this point in his career.
