The Vancouver Canucks have acquired Nikolay Goldobin from the San Jose Sharks. Full trade details to follow..

To Canucks
Nikolay Goldobin
Conditional 4th round pick in 2017

To Sharks
Jannik Hansen

Goldobin is a 21 year old Left wing. In 46 games for the San Jose Barracuda this season he put up 15 goals 26 assists for a total of 41 points. He was third on the team in scoring to this point in the season. in 11 NHL games he as scored 1 goal and 1 assist.

Jannik Hansen has played in 565 NHL games scoring 105 goals 130 assists for 235 points and is a plus 46 rating in those games.  Hansen is obviously a player that the Sharks hope will help them to go deeper into the post season this year, but he is not just a rental. Hansen has 1 more year on his contract after this season and at just 30 years old he should be an effective player through the length of his contract for the Sharks.

For the Canucks I really am starting to like the core of young players and picks that they are piling up for the rebuild. I have liked Goldobin for some time now and personally feel like he will be a solid NHL player in a couple of seasons. Will he still be with the Canucks organization by that time? Only time will tell.

As for the Sharks I really like the Addition of Hansen here. He is going to be able to free up Joe Thorton to do just about anything he wants (As a close friend put it when hearing of the deal) while he is battling in front of the net. I feel like this could be exactly the kind of player and presence that this team needs to finally have a shot to get to the finals. Will it be enough to get the cup? Well.. if they are facing the even higher powered Washington Capitols with Kevin Shattenkirk then i wouldn’t personally bet on it.. but they did increase their chances for a deep run significantly with this move in my honest opinion.

Solid deal from both sides in this one.
