Yes Edmonton fans, you actually read this correctly… Your very own Edmonton Oilers can actually secure a place in postseason play for the first time since 2006. If the Oilers beat the Kings tonight in any fashion and pick up the full 2 points then the Oilers are heading into the post season!

Whats better yet for you Oilers fans out there is that tonight is even fan appreciation night! So not only is it a great game and a great event that the team does each season but this time around its a night that the team can really give back to the fans and punch their ticket to the postseason!

Honestly, I am excited for the franchise as well as for its fans. It has been a long rough stretch for as long as most NHL fans can remember for the Oilers. It has been a long fall from grace from the 80’s teams that dominated the league.

Conner McDavid

We have seen McDavid do just about everything we could have expected and then some to this point in his career. The one thing we have not seen him do is to play in the NHL playoffs. If this kid has shown us anything to this point in his career it is that the bigger the game the better he plays. If this holds true into the playoffs then it could be an awesome ride for the Oilers faithful.

Personally, I am excited to see what he can do in the “second season” as it’s so often referred to. Here is a shout out to all you Oilers fans who have stuck by the team through thick and thin over the last 11 seasons. If they can get this win tonight it is all for you!

Here is what Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan had to say about it.

“We’re not dummies. I think we’re all aware of the opportunity that’s in front of us.”

Here is what Cam Talbot, the starting goalie for tonights game had to say.

“It’s a big night. It’s been a long time coming for this city and hopefully we can go out there and give the fans a good show tonight and do what we need to do to take care of business,”

Here are the anticipated line combinations for tonight’s game

Maroon – McDavid – Draisaitl
Lucic – Nugent-Hokpins – Eberle
Pouliot – Desharnais – Kassian
Hendricks – Letestu – Caggiula

Klefbom – Larsson
Sekera – Russell
Nurse – Gryba
