Joel Armia was Drafted by the Buffalo Sabres of the NHL in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He was taken with the 16th overall selection.

Armia was included in the blockbuster trade that happened on February 11th, 2015 between the Buffalo Sabres and the Winnipeg Jets. The trade sent forward Evander Kane, and defensemen Zach Bogosian to the Sabres in exchange the Sabres sent defenseman Tyler Myers, forward Drew Stafford, forward Joel Armia, forward Brendan Lemieux, and a first round draft pick to the Jets.

At this point in the season, Armia has scored 10 goals and picked up 8 assists for a total of 18 points in his 53 games played this season for the Jets.

Has good size for the National Hockey League game, plus the soft hands and instincts of a natural sniper. Knows where to be in score goals and also has two-way upside.
Needs to display greater shift-to-shift consistency and stop taking shifts off in order to maximize his NHL potential. Also needs to add more bulk for North America.

A budding power forward, Armia is one of Finland’s most heralded young players. He has a rare combination of size and goal-scoring ability, using his 6’3 to shield the puck and soft hands to stickhandle and shoot. He needs to work on his defensive play, especially 1-on-1, and his skating ability.
