The Golden Knights have signed Mike Kelley to be one of their assistant coaches for their inaugural season. Mike Kelley most recently coached for the Florida Panthers as an assistant to then Panthers Head Coach and now Vegas Head Coach Gerard Gallant.
General Manager George McPhee had this to say about the signing…
“We are very proud of the addition of Mike to our team’s coaching staff. His experience as a coach at various levels within professional hockey and as a recent assistant coach under Gerard with the Panthers made him a well-rounded candidate. His familiarity with Gerard’s coaching style and practices will make this a seamless transition for our club.”
Head Coach Gerard Gallant had this to say today…
“I am very excited to be working with Mike again. We enjoyed success in both Florida and Saint John and I am eager to bring that success to the Golden Knights. Mike is a great guy with a wealth of hockey knowledge and I couldn’t be happier with the decision to bring him to Las Vegas.”
With both coaches working closely together with the Panthers not too long ago it will be interesting to see what they bring to the Vegas Knights. With this being an expansion franchise will they be looking to play the same type of game and style that they played when they were with the Panthers, or will they be looking to play a different style while they build up their young players and start to establish an identity of what Golden Knight Hockey is all about? That is one of many questions that will be left to be seen when the team takes the ice in October.
Puck Planet will be attempting to reach out to Coach Gallant and or Coach Kelly as well in the next few days. If we are able to get ahold of them we will update this post with the interview and any new or intriguing information that we are able to find out for all the Golden Knight fans out there.
*Will be adding Coach Kelly’s career statistics and resume shortly.
