Predators Qualify 6 RFA’s

The Nashville Predators extended qualifying offers to six of their RFA’s. They qualified forwards Pontus Aberg, Frederick Gaudreau, Ryan Johansen, Viktor Arvidsson and Austin Watson. They also qualified goaltender Marek Mazanec. This means that the Predators will have the opportunity to match any offer sheets these players may receive and they would receive draft pick compensation should they not match those offers.

The players can sign these offers on July 1st, but most likely they are just used to give the team time to work out a longer term contract with the player. They have from now until salary arbitration (in roughly a month) to work out a deal with the team.

The team choose not to qualify defenseman Jaynen Rissling and goaltender Jonas Gunnarsson. This means they will become unrestricted free agents on July 1st.

My name is Daniel Jones, I am from the Washington D.C. area originally, but have lived in Nashville, Tn since 1983. I grew up a fan of the Washington Capitals and I am still partial to them. However, I became a day 1 season ticket holder with the Nashville Predators when they arrived. My wife and I have been hardcore Preds fans ever since. Being asked to cover to the Preds for Puck Planet is both a dream and an honor. I hope to do both the website and Predator fans proud.
