The Rockford IceHogs opened their 2017-18 season by shutting out the Monsters in Cleveland. J.F. Berube was brilliant in goal and four different IceHogs scored in the 4-0 victory. Head Coach Jeremy Colliton collected his first win behind the Rockford bench.

Tomas Jurco, Viktor Svedberg, Matthew Highmore and Ville Pokka each scored a goal. Jurco also added two assists, with Highmore, Pokke and Alexandre Fortin had one each.

In goal, Berube stopped 32 shots. He survived eight Cleveland powerplays. On a side note, the IceHogs were 1-7 on their powerplays.

It’s too early to make big statements on the season, but this team looked very different from last year’s team. It should be an interesting season.

The next game is Saturday, October 14. The IceHogs host the Iowa Wild at the BMO Harris Bank Center at 6 p.m.
